Metamorphosis (5-15)
The short story so far is really interesting, but confusing, and weird. Gregor simply woke up one morning as some insect and now can't really get out of bed, and whole this is all going on the only thing going through his head is getting to work. Everyone wants him to open the door when he actually can't physically get up. His employer comes in and lashes out on him. The only question I have is how did he wake up an insect?

Today's Discussion
I thought that today's discussion was very productive. Listening to everyone's thoughts about the questions were very interesting. I really like how everyone was able to refer back to heart of darkness. My favorite question about the discussion was when we talked about whether or not keeping our inner id secret or not. It was great to hear everyone's opinions. I also really liked when we talked about not having any rules and how everyone's reaction would be to that type of situation.

3rd Body
Kurtz does not deserve to be idolized when he is such a horrible person. Everyone can see that except those who idolize him. His intended knew him way before he went off, so in her mind she still thinks he is the same person when he in fact has turned to his inner id and become dark. We can see this through his brutality and his unfaithfulness to his intended. Marlow can't see his darkness even though he is witnessing the horrible things he has done. Maybe Marlows id is also dark, but he hasn't completely come in touch with it. He has become dark enough to think Kurtz is a great person but then still has a heart. When he was torn between lying or not lying to the intended, he did it because he had a heart and to out her at peace. But a lie is a lie so now because he is not completely transformed he can easily go back and forth between his inner darkness.

2nd body Paragraph
The ending of heart of darkness is the most complex for Marlow is torn between two ideas. He says that he hates it when people lie but yet feels as though in the situation that he is currently in he has to lie. Kurtz's intended who is still mourning gravely after a year of Kurtz death asks Marlow for the last words. She is so sure of what Kurtz has said, Marlow does not quite know what to do. He wants her to be happy but at the same time he wishes to continue staying loyal to Kurtz. Marlow ends up lying to the intended for he feels that is the best choice. He did this to finally put her to peace and tell her what she wants to hear.

1 body Paragraph
I want my first body to revolve around the following ideas, introducing the essay by saying that through Marlow's imagination he has developed a fascination of Kurtz, even though he is a horrible person Conrad shows his awfulness but Marlow is unable to see that. Also both Marlow and Kurtz's intended have this idea of Kurtz being this fantastic person. Marlow is trying to rewrite history so that he can continue to praise Kurtz and feel as though he should not be questioned for praising a horrible person who had stakes on stakes facing him. Marlow lies to the intended for not only her well being but also himself so that he can believe it.

Intro paragraph
I'm thinking that my first body paragraph should first talk about Kal and how he says that people are free to dream. Then say how that casts a light on heart of darkness with Marlow. Marlow does take the opportunity to dream which is how he subsequently developed this obsession for Kurtz. The intro will elaborate more on this topic of how Karl and Conrad mesh together when it comes to this topic. Then my paragraphs to one will talk about marlow and his personalities. Lastly, before the inclusion I am going to mention why the lie was made by someone who despises lies.
HOD Question
I'm thinking that my topic for my essay should have something to do with marlow and his lie to Kurtz's intended and what exactly it shows about him and his personality. His morals, and his reason for lying since he hated it so much. Maybe it had something to do with his crazy obsession with Kurtz and making sure he is always happy. Karl mentions that everyone is free to dream and explore their wildest imaginations.here because Marlow has developed this fascination of Kurtz he feels obligated to do what he can to keep him happy, even if I involves lying even after he has passed on. I'm thinking my topic should be: what does marlow's lie show about him as a person and does it have something to do with his obsession of Kurtz?
